Cannot say: in your particular case. But in general it is because antibiotics cannot jump. Most lumps treated with antibiotics are collections of pus (boils, abcesses). The antibiotics cannot get fully into the area (they don't jump) and abscesses do not go away and are not treated UNLESS THEY ARE DRAINED/REMOVED.

Recheck: I am not sure what condition you are being trated for. Abscess, cellulits ?- Some skin infections can take 2-3 weeks to resolve even with antibiotic therapy.
