Well --: A person could potentially develop tolerance with any of the benzodiazapines. I try to use selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Often also use buspar (buspirone). Non-pharmacologic strategies are crucial if you don't want to always have to rely on medications. Ativan (lorazepam): is typically not used for long term management of anxiety because of its short half life and tachyphylaxis (need to take higher doses over time) Do not abruptly discontinue this medication as withdrawal can lead to seizures. Discuss with your psychiatrist the problem you are having with the medication wearing off. Consider seeing one if you are not currently (Dr Cady for example)
