Relaxin: The placenta produces a hormone cleverly called "Relaxin" because it causes the joints of pregnant women to relax. This provides more space for the baby to squeeze through the bony pelvis during labor; however, it can also cause some pain in your other joints. If you are having persistent pain in your lower abdomen, you should probably be seen in OB triage at the hospital. Best wishes.
