A member asked:

Does an ultrasound confuse breakthrough bleeding with lmp bleeding? do ultrasound consider breakthrough bleeding as lmp when determining due date

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ultrasound dates: Bleeding is really immaterial as the ultrasound measures the gestation to determine dates. The ultrasound will measure the gestational sac and the length of the fetal pole and with those measurements calculate a due date. If the fetus is larger it will measure the long bone of the leg, the circumference of the abdomen and the diameter of two points in the head. The three are averaged to get a date
