Depends: Loss of a loved one is always difficult. Treatment would depend on the severity of symptoms, usually a referral to a psychotherapist who works with grief can be useful. If symptoms are more serious such as not eating or not being able to work, then referral to a psychiatrist for consideration of medication is recommended. Any suicidal thoughts or hopelessness demand immediate physician evaluation.

Allow her the pain: she feels. It is important to respect the grieving process rather than trying to help her feel better. Listen with your ears and listen with your heart. Remind her that she is loved. Her grief is essential.
