Possible muscular: strain or pull. Have you done any extreme exercise, or puling/pushing or lifting? I suggest trying OTC anti inflammatory medication like Aleve (naproxen) or Advil and BioFreeze Cream. Your kidneys are actually higher up than your hip area.
