Talk to a dentist: Many dentists and or pediatric dentists can help you with a fixed appliance that makes forming a suction difficult.This is a bit drastic but can help protect the teeth.It would also be good to enlist the aid of a child therapist to see if you could get help with your kids self soothing needs and habits.

Breaking the habit: See an orthodontist for a fixed palatal crib or other corrective orthodontic device. The idea is to prevent the thumb from touching the gums and make thumb sucking uncomfortable and not fun. After 3-6 month After a month the habit is broken. Take care.
