Not something we do: very often but just use a cloth or paper tape measure and measure around the base.

In A Human?: You keep two sets of books. One for you and another for public consumption. HaHa. Simple.Get a paper tape rule and circle it around once and read it. Do it in the middle. I guess you want to know whether soft or hard. Or how to keep it hard?Maybe your girlfriend will help. That usually works. Now you want to know what's the average girth (circumfrence)? About 5 inches.
