Seizure 2 do's: Normally, a seizure lasts 30-90 seconds, so safety is important. If a person has a seizure lasting more than 5 minutes, call 911. It is best to help a person with a seizure to the ground, so they cannot fall. Turn them onto one side, to prevent choking. Do not put anything in their mouth. Do not try to resist their movements. Watch them, but also give them some space. They should recover.

Some steps: Key is to prevent injury. Make sure that patient does not fall on dangerous objects. Do not place any devices in the nose or mouth. If worried about aspiration, place on side. Best not to restrain. HOWEVER, prevention remains the top approach. We have more than 20 meds, and some may control better. A VNS unit can be considered. Contact the neurologist involved.
