Depends on...: ...What is being treated, duration of treatment so far, dose response to medication, inciting factors (ongoing NSAID use, tobacco, alcohol), likelihood of excessive acid production (e.g. Gastrinoma), risk factors (e.g. Prior ulcers, family history), biopsy results (if endoscopy performed). Relative to timing, omeprazole should be taken before breakfast for best benefit. See your doc if concerns.

Could take longer.: Assuming some healing can occur, you should take the medication uninterrupted for six weeks before truly determining efficacy. If your symptoms then recur, you'd need an EGD.
