ARS symptoms: Early HIV infection is called acute retroviral syndrome (ARS). Symptoms occur in about 2/3 of newly infected people, usually start 1-2 weeks after infection: sore throat, fever, lymph node swellings in several places, skin rash (non-itchy pink spots), mouth sores. Usually only some, but fever almost always. ARS is a poor indicator of new HIV; identical symptoms with many minor health conditions.
