A member asked:

Does seroquel/quetiapine (50mg) affects the pancreas cells? how does it affect insulin sensitivity? can you counter its negative effects on insulin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Tiny effect: A review of the literature shows a tiny number (.1%) of patients reporting insulin resistance with Seroquel use. 2/3 of these were women, associated drugs used with Seroquel were, in order of occurence : Abilify, (aripiprazole) Zyprexa, Risperdal, Zoloft, and Lexapro. Seroquel affects mostly Dopamine, Serotonin, and Alpha receptors, so it shouldn't, by itself cause insulin resistance. Talk to you psychiatrist
