What's your MCV?: Hi. Your RDW is slightly elevated. That's not related to your type 2 diabetes or its treatment. What is your MCV (is it above or below normal?)? And lastly, are you anemic? The RDW describes the size distribution of red cells. If your RBC are small (low MCV), iron deficiency is possible, but so are some hemoglobinopathies. If MCV elevated, B12 and/or folate (folic acid) deficiency, alcohol, etc are considered.
