SVT and Lidocaine: Good question! Local anesthetics can be used without epinephrine(epi). The reasons epi is added to local anesthetics include, to increase their duration of action, decrease their absorption into the circulation and decrease bleeding. In dental procedures these are good things. SVT is a dangerous condition that can lead to a heart attack so avoiding stimulants such as epi is recommended.

Other Anesthetics: if you can not have Epinephrine, there are Anesthetics that work better without the epi. Your dentist will make the decision for you. Using usually Carbocaine 3% plain or Mepivacaine with no epi. Etc...
