Get HIV test: Early HIV infection can be very similar to the flu, with fever, body aches, sore throat and swollen glands. The medications used for PEP can cause some nausea and vomiting, but not fever. Since PEP was started after 72 hours it may not be completely effective in preventing HIV. I would get an HIV test about 4-6 weeks after your HIV exposure. If it is negative, repeat the test 2 months later.
