Castor oil and labor: A 2009 study of 612 women with pregnancies of 40 weeks or more reports that the use of castor oil to induce labor was not dangerous to mother or fetus, but did not result in a significant difference in labor onset in the group that took the oil, and those that didn't. That being said, it's likely not worth the risk to try it. Precipitous deliveries are stressful to the baby and can be dangerous.
