Stones: Kidney stones can be caused by increased urinary calcium, uric acid or oxalate. They can also be caused by decreased citrate in the urine. You need a stone work up. If you have low urinary citrate you need to take oral citrate; if you have increased urinary calcium you need hydrochlorthiazide and if you have a high urinary uric acid you need allopurinol You need blood for parathyroid hormone.

It depends: It depends on what kind of kidney stones you have. Have you ever been told or had your urine analyzed? The most common type of stone is a calcium oxalate stone. For that it is very important to keep very well hydrated, and taking a full glass of orange juice and lemonade each every day will give you enough citrate to be able to decrease your risk of worsening kidney stones.
