False negative?: Initial tests are often negative in Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus, In fact, occasionally these tests remain negative in spite of obvious clinical disease. Also, there are a number of causes of elevated sed rate and joint pain besides R.A. or Lupus. Your doctor will probably run further tests and, because your symptoms are severe, may initiate treatment before the diagnosis is confirmed.
