A member asked:

During my thyroidectomy, my r recurrent laryngeal nerve was cauterized, but not transected. is it more likely to heal or be permanently injured?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: If the cautery injury affects both the nerve fiber and its insulation( myelin), the healing is less likely to be complete. Still a cautery injury is likely less severe than a complete nerve severing or transaction.
