YES: Although nasal congestion is usually present in patients with acute/chronic sinusitis the infection itself can be primary and a part of a generalized "upper respiratory" infection. Bacterial infections of the sinus is often by organisms which "reside" there and are "activated" by a viral infection of the throat/nose upper airway. Hope this helps Dr Z

Yes: About 10% of cold may be complicated by a bacterial sinusitis even after the congestion has gone. People with an anatomical obstruction at the sinus openings may have frequent or chronic sinusitis as would be an immune defect.

Yes: Usually congestion but not always. You'll need an x-ray to diagnose sinusitis. If dental pain persists, see DDS to assess tooth.
