Hiatal hernia: Hiatal hernia is due to minor abnormality in organ development resulting in a poorly functioning sphincter muscle between the stomach and esophagus; sometimes a part of the stomach even slides up into the chest. These do not resolve without surgery. Spicy foods and overeating will make symptoms worse, as well as alcohol and caffeine.

No. : Hiatal hernias only worsen over time. While medications help control symptoms, only surgery can cure a hiatal hernia. Neither stress nor eating cause hernias.
