A member asked:

Is it safe to take ford senna extra strength laxatives while pregnant?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Considered safe: Senna is considered safe in pregnancy for short-term use; it is not absorbed into the bloodstream, but rather is activated by bacteria in the colon, producing substances that cause the nerves of the colon to fire and the smooth muscle to contract. It is my opinion that psyllium powder mixed in water is a better and more comfortable choice, by softening/bulking the stool without irritating the colon
