Mosquito transmitted: Chikumgunya is a virus which causes a febrile illness lasting two to five days followed by a longer period of joint pain. It is transmitted by two species of mosquitos. The virus survives in the reservoir of monkeys, birds, cattle & rodents. It does not seem to spread from person to person. The most effective prevention is protection from mosquitoes & mosquito control.
