Pain, swelling: Typically thumb injuries will result in pain, swelling and limitation of motion. The goal of treatment would be to decrease the symptoms so the individual can return to normal activities and not reinjure it.

Pain, swelling...: Simple thumb injuries, such as sprains, can cause pain, swelling and stiffness. Symptoms should improve over the course of a few weeks. More complex injuries can result in fractures and ligament ruptures (severe sprains) and in some cases require treatment, such as casting or surgery. See your doctor if you have any concerns.
