Lengthy: Untreated, if not dead, they may last a lifetime. You develop low grade immunity and compensatory mechanisms to deal with damage, but this is seldom cured on its own. Treated appropriately, symptoms will begin to regress within hours of initiation of therapy, but if not fully treated for the extraerythrocytic stages of disease, may recur up to 20 yrs or more after therapy for acute illness.
