Genetic abnormality: In rare cases, boys with undescended testes can have Klinefelter syndrome. Normally girls are genetically "46XX" and boys are "46XY". Boys with Klinefelter syndrome have "47XXY" or other more rare variants- they are still male, but the presence of the extra "X" chromosome may affect their response to testosterone thereby affecting sexual development. They can also have other disabilities.
