Risks with multiples: Twin, triplet, and higher-order pregnancies are higher risk for both mom and babies. Risks include preterm labor/delivery, pre-eclampsia, uneven distribution of bloodflow & nutrients to babies, diabetes and other health problems for mom, and identicals or babies who share a sac can even get tangled up. Multiple pregnancies should be closely monitored by a high-risk OB specialist.
