Big different: orthopedic surgeon is a specialist in bone and joint surgery he could medical doctor MD or doctor of osteopath DO osteopath is a school that teach medicine in addition special emphasis on spine adjustment either MD or DO can go and specialize in any of the medical or surgical specialties i hope that answer your question good luck

Diff. approaches: Orthopedic doctors are either MD's or DO's (osteopaths) who have completed a residency in Orthopedic Surgery & specialize in treating bone problems. Osteopaths attend osteopathic instead of medical school but for the most part practice like MD's. However, osteopathy started as a discipline based on adjusting bones. Today only some osteopaths do osteopathic manipulation. See comment:
