See physician: Clearly, you need to see your physician for a complete evaluation. High protein in urine suggests significant kidney disease. The cough may reflect emphysema, chronic bronchitis; even a lung tumor. Meanwhile, stop smoking NOW.

Immediate physicial: exam. High urine protein can indicate kidney problems or hyperporteinemia. You will need a repeat urine analysis and a 24 hour urine collection for protein analysis, Please consult a nephrologist.
