Psychosis: Trifluoperazine (stelazine), a conventional antipsychotic used for psychosis (paranoia, grandiosity) which may accompany a manic or depressive episode. For maintenance treatment of bipolar disorder a mood stabilizer such as lithium, depakote, lamictal, or oxcarbazapine or a newer antipsychotic (abilify, latuda, (lurasidone) etc) are used to avoid long term use of a conventional antipsychotic due to side effect.

Stelazine: Is an atypical antipsychotic of the phenothiazine group, primarily used for schizophrenia, but also for agitation, severe behavioral problems & severe nausea/vomiting/anxiety. Its use has declined over the years due to high incidence of side-effects especially tardive dyskinesia, and replaced with newer antipsychotics such as Abilify (aripiprazole) & seroquel which work well for bipolar disorders.
