If you have allergy issues try an over the counter allergy pill. But watch out for decongestants like sudafed. They dry up drainage but they can also thicken mucous especially when combined with an antihistamine.

Guiafenesin: Hello, For symptomatic relief you can try over the counter products containing guiafenesin. However if you are a smoker or have known respiratory, allergy or acid reflux problems I would suggest speaking to your primary doctor. There are prescription drugs which can help loosen mucus if the above does not help.
