Inflammation: The heat signals inflammation of some sort. There may be infection, acute allergy, wind or chemical burn, or some other sort of irritation causing inflammation. Artificial tears are usually safe to use. Also, rinsing the eyes and applying a cold compress may help. If any symptoms persist, it will be necessary to see an eye MD to determine the actual cause.
