Not usually: Diarrhea after a night of heavy drinking shouldn't persist. It is possible you have a viral infection that is causing it. Seek medical attention if diarrhea persists. Thanks for trusting HealthTap!

Usually not: Unless this has happened to you before when you drank alcohol, diarrhea after alcohol doesn't generally last five days except in cases of hemorrhagic gastritis or bleeding peptic ulcer precipitated by heavy alcohol intake. Your diarrhea is more likely to be viral or food related.

Probably not: Diarrhea from viral infections should only last for a few days. Diarrhea from food sensitivities last for a much shorter period of time (a day or two). Prolonged diarrhea is concerning for bacterial or parasitic infection, or disease of the bowel from other causes. Alcohol use usually does not produce diarrhea unless a person has a particular sensitivity to it.
