From simple 2 seriou: There are many questions that would need to be asked to give idea what is causing this. It could be neck muscle tension, sinusitis (see my answer relating to referred pain), migraine, tension ha...If associated with sore throat and fever, meningitis. If worst pain ever got there, subarachnoid hemorrhage, or brain aneurysm. Anything suddenly new, or severe, in that area has to be evaluated urgently.

Need more info: There can be many causes of severe head and neck pain. As such, these symptoms should be evaluated thoroughly by your primary care physician, neurologist or physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist to identify the cause. Once this is determined then appropriate treatment(s) can be considered. i hope all goes well and that you feel better very soon.

Back/neck pain: It is tough to say without an exam, but some common conditions such as arthritis or a muscle sprain strain of the neck muscles in the back of the head could certainly cause your issues. best wishes.

Take Aleve!: See if your pain is not improved appreciably with an otc pain releiver, then see your doctor. Having failer asa, tylenol, (acetaminophen) or aleve will be important information. But this is what you should do!
