A member asked:

How do the numbing drops during an eye exam work?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Anesthetic: the drops that are used are usually proparacaine, which is a topical anesthetic. It's just like the stuff the dentist gives you. In the old days, the drops that were used were cocaine-- which is a topical anesthetic as well-- but that's not done very often anymore for obvious reasons.
