It is very poisonous: Most toilet bowl cleaners are some form of bleach, and that is also toxic. Phenol (or carbolic acid) is caustic and can burn the mouth, lips, tongue and esophagus, and if absorbed can cause seizures. It can be fatal. Your friend needs to go to an ER immediately. If he or she was taking it with suicidal intent, psychiatric evaluation is also necessary.
