A member asked:

If an embolus travels through the heart and up a carotid artery, can it cause an aneurysm?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: It doesn't stop in the carotid (which is a large artery). It keeps right on moving until it comes to a vessel that's too small for passage and then it becomes lodged there and obstructs circulation. Since the carotids supply the brain, these emboli cause strokes.
