My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and a colostomy bag was necessary. what exactly is that?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Form of diversion: Staging of colon cancer and colostomy unrelated. The use of a colostomy is when the removed colon and tumor usually approximate the anal region and resuturing of the proximal bowel cant be accomplished to reestablish continuity of bowel. On this basis the proximal end of the divided bowel is brought out on the skin but can be managed by irrigation and a patch rather than a bag.
