Prevention is good: I wish we all cared about prevention. But it's never going to be 100%. Standard kind-to-tummy is your 1st job. Limit food to bland easy to digest liquid/soft items - broth, tea, milkshake, lots of water. Sips of i/2 water 1/2 organic cider vinegar w/ a pinch of baking soda are magical. Once well, consider an exam to see if there's a problem to treat. If not, good. CBT therapy can help phobias.
