Male iron deficiency: General information: New onset of iron deficiency anemia (low red blood cell count ) in a healthy middle-aged adult male is presumed to be from blood loss from the gastrointestinal tract due to slow bleeding from colon polyps,until proven otherwise.Colon polyps can be removed during colonoscopy, preventing them turning into colon cancer (3rd most common cause of cancer death in men in US, per ACS)
