NO: As you get older your risk of serious consequences from flu increases dramatically. Even though you became ill after the vaccine, the illness may not have been influenza but another virus. Regardless, you are best protected with the vaccine as even if you do contract flu after, you are partially protected and likely will not be as sick as you would have been. You also protect your grandkids.

How diagnosed ?: If you took the injected vaccine, it is dead material and there is no way you got the flu from it. Was your "flu" diagnosed by a health practitioner using a flu test? You can certainly have a reaction/allergy to a component of the vaccine that makes you sick, and an allergist might be able to confirm that.
