A member asked:

What kind of medicine helps when you have a dry cough with lots of mucous? ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Try honey: Studies have shown that over the counter cold medications are ineffective in the treatment of coughs due to upper respiratory infections. Plenty of fluids & teaspoons of honey work better. Of course if you have asthma or allergies, bronchodilators & antihistamines may help.If you have a bacterial infection, your physician would treat with antibiotics & possible a narcotic cough suppressant.
