Reactive airways: Sensitivities to fragrances and other chemicals can trigger a variety of allergy type symptoms. A prolonged cough after such an exposure is suspicious for reactive airways ( bronchoconstriction and excess mucous production). This type of cough requires specific Rx medications (inhaled albuterol and possibly steroids) but may improve some with Zyrtec, (cetirizine) an over the counter allergy medicine.
