Varies: The scaphoid is a slow bone to heal and orthopaedic surgeons having different opinions on what type of cast and for how long to cast. Some will cast above your elbow, and all the way to the tip of your thumb. Others, below the elbow and just below the joint in your thumb. A cast may be required for a minimum of 6 weeks, and possibly as long as 3 or more months.
