My boyfriend has been in icu 14 days now suffering from dt. he doesn't seem to be improving, how long can this go on? he is still trapped, confused

No set time: Unfortunately, delirium tremens can go on for indefinite periods of time, despite treatment. I presume the DTs are related to alcohol. The longer he was an alcoholic, the more his liver is damaged, & the greater the bacterial / ammonia load, the longer it can go on, even if the alcohol has "washed out" of his system, per neurologists. My thoughts are w/ you, but thank you for posting on HealthTap.
