A member asked:

What's the difference between a gtube & a gjtube? why would a toddler need to be switched from a gtube to a gjtube?

Dr. Nir Hus answered

Gastric tube and jej: g-tube is a tube with the stomach. A G-j-tube is a tube with an opening into the stomach and an additional distal opening into the jejunum. We use the g-j tube to feed away from the stomach and into the jejunum so as to not reflux back into the esophagus or if there was a problem with the stomach such as surgery or gastroperisis. The G part will drain the stomach and the J part is for feeding.
