A member asked:

My g.i. has been better since i stop metformin my dr. recommend invokana or farxiga which is better to take less side effects? i take a lot of meds.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

SGLT2 inhibitors: Hi. It's unfortunate that some folks just can't take metformin because of GI side effects, but it seems your doc did the right thing by stopping it. Invokana and Farxiga are both exciting new drugs in the SGLT2 category. Like metformin, in monotherapy, they can't cause hypoglycemia. Invokana can lead to a little more daily glucose excretion than Farxiga, and Invokana can be used with sl lower eGFR
