Shin Splints: Shin splints is when the tibialis anterior muscle and tendon is irritating the shin along the attachment. If the pain occurs with activity, then rest and take an NSAID like ibuprofen. You can also ice the area and use a compression wrap or sleeve to press the muscle back against the bone. The same condition can affect the posterior tibial muscle as well. See a doc if it doesn't improve.

Get orthotics: You may be experiencing shin splints from repetitive stress on the tibia. If you are bow legged that will only increase that stress. Orthotics help level your ankle and tibia and reduce this tendency. You may also have posterior tibial tendonitis which is also similar and due to lack of support for your feet. Recommend stretching of your calf muscles and seek help.
