Usually pain: Usually before the classic skin lesions appear most patients describe tingling at the site. Then the typical herpetic blisters appear. Patients can alsomhave some pretty bad systemic symptoms. These can be like a viral syndrome with fever amd malaise. The lesions can be rather painful. Subsequent flare-ups can be less severe but not always.
