Sedation: I assume that you are undergoing some procedure that requires intravenous sedation. The needle that pricks your skin does not hurt much more that the needle used to have blood drawn for a blood test. The needle is removed and only a plastic catheter remains. The fluid in the IV bag goes into the vein and any medication needed is inserted into the tubing that is attached to the plastic catheter,
